Appendix C — Transmission Requirements
AAWCO ELECTRONIC WAREHOUSE RECEIPT SYSTEM: REVISION 8

The following data transmission standards are in use today with USDA’s electronic cotton warehouse receipts. These requirements reflect a dial-up telephone line-based system. AAWCO’s data transmittal may be accomplished with World Wide Web access as an alternative to dial-up lines.

Data Transmission will be collected and transmitted by ordinary telephone hardware and software with the following minimum standards:

1) Asynchronous and synchronous

2) Full duplex operation

3) V.42 or MNP 2-4 error correcting

4) V.42 bis or MNP-5 data compression standards

5) Minimum transmission speed of 9,600 bps/V.32 protocol with the following fall backs:

A. 4800 bps
B. 2,400 bps
C. 1,200 bps
D. 300 bp

6) Hayes command set compatible

7) 3780 emulation

8) ASCII Text Comma Delimited-all text fields and surrounded by double quotes. All numeric fields and date fields have no quotes. Commas separate all fields.

9) ASCII Text Fixed Field -fields are not separated at all. Data should be padded on the left (numeric) with zeros or blanks.
